-> Danvic Briones is a Vancouver-based mixed-media artist and expressive arts therapist. His art focuses on his memories from childhood, incorporating nature and cultures from Canada and the Philippines. He also focuses on the Vancouver landscape, portraits of people, and animals, the depiction of events and everyday life, and almost always gives a glimpse of his Filipino heritage.

He has participated in group exhibitions around BC and in other parts of Canada. His works are often shown in Surrey Art Gallery, Museo Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver, Essence at the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa, Richmond Public Library, and San Diego Centre for the Moving Arts in the US.

His style and technique are constantly evolving. He uses recycled wood to create bas-reliefs and paints them with subdued colours – deep red, mossy green, and dark maroon. He accentuates his subject with bright yellow and varnishes the canvas, letting the wood soak up the colours. After the varnish dries, he applies dark oil paint and carefully wipes it off, creating a sepia effect and enhancing the carved lines. He then smooths some elements with different brushes and techniques.

What makes Danvic’s masterpieces so captivating for collectors?

(1) He uses recycled wood as his canvas and carves and engraves his subjects on it

(2) He creates stunning details, colours and textures that invite viewers to explore and reflect on his themes

(3) He blends different materials and techniques such as oil, acrylic and varnish to produce playful and original artworks.
