We would like to honour and salute JOSE “BOY” GRACIEL MATA who sadly passed away last August 11th, 2020.
A distinguished muralist and visual artist. He is one of the senior artists in Angono, Rizal—The Art Capital Of The Philippines.
A self-taught visual artist who started painting in 1985. He is known for Modern Pointillism Cubism Impressionism— A hybrid of the styles of: Botong Francisco, Vicente Manansala, Angelito Antonio, Ang Kiukok and Hernando Ocampo that he developed.
He won the second Place in one of the well known TV shows in the Philippines “The TV Wonderland on-the-spot Painting Contest”
He was part of the book launching of “Great Themes In Philippine Art – Mother and Child” and the “The Art Collector’s Guide Book”. His artwork were usually featured in magazine publications and broadsheets in the Philippines.
Most of his paintings were featured in a coffee-table book of Manuel Duldulao’s “Century of Filipino Realism (Book 3).”
Jose Graciel Boy Mata known as Kuya Boy Mata is also one of the pillars of Spoliarium, through him, Spoliarium launched in 2019 to help the artists in the Philippines, because of him we were able to successfully help artists locally and now globally. Artists around the world are continuously contacting us and wanting to be part of Spoliarium, as we continuously scale and support artists worldwide
Boy Mata has been in 54 solo and group art exhibitions all over the country with almost 600+ paintings done.
We will forever be grateful to Kuya Boy.
